Hello Everyone! I hope you had a fantastic day. If you’re in the U.S. I hope your Thanksgiving was filled with family, friends, food and fun. Mine was! My family and Mark were over at my mom and dad’s house. We had a small oven fire (more on that in the next post), lots of cheese, wine, dessert and, of course, stuffing!

I don’t have a lot of tips on how not to overinduldge on days like this because, well, I often do over indulge. Today, however, I did three specific things that helped me stay on the right side of too far. First, I went for a long run. I planned to do 5 miles, but then when I saw everyone’s Pile on the Mile goals at Bobbi’s blog I was inspired to do 6.2 miles. That helped me feel great all day. Second, I drank lots and lots of water. Seriously, water is like Drano for the body. Third, I fought the urge to put on my elastic waist sweatpants. The thought of popping a button really made me think twice about a third piece of pie!  All in all, a day of treats for sure, but no Joey in pregnancy pants situations going on.

Right now I’ll share the appetizer and dessert portions of the day. The main meal will follow in another post as I really need to take a shower and go to bed!

I’ve mentioned my brother works in the cheese department of Whole Foods. Well today he brought over a ton of great cheeses! I don’t know much about cheese, but I know that each type I tried was fantastic! There was blue cheese, goat, Gruyere, cheddar and I think an aged gouda. I could be wrong though. My brother had so much information on each type, but I couldn’t keep it all straight!

My sister (Stinky Cheese) made a lovely cannellini bean dip that we had with Stacy’s pita chips and carrots, fennel and peppers.

We had an antipasto with prosciutto, olives and pickled vegetables. People love it, but I’ve never liked one thing on that traditional plate. Skipping this course is fine with me because I get more room for other things.

There was also the Roasted Winter Squash and Apple Soup I posted about the other night. Even better after sitting for a couple days!

Intermission…

Then dessert!

I made Caramel Apple Cheesecake. I was a little nervous about this because just as I was dropping each egg in the mixer, I dropped half an egg shell right in there! The mixer was going so fast, but it was like a slow motion disaster sequence. I couldn’t move fast enough to turn that thing off. I picked out each piece of shell, but I was still nervous someone would bite into something a little crunchy. I was prepared to say it was a vanilla bean.

I usually don’t like how heavy cheese cake is, but this was light and creamy.  My secret ingredient swap was Greek Yogurt instead of sour cream. I also liked how the specks of cinnamon and nutmeg showed in the cake and the caramel sauce. I also really enjoyed eating cheese cake as it reminded me of one of my favorite shows… Golden Girls!

Here is Mark’s dessert plate with a small sample of pumpkin pie, apple pie and cheesecake.

I kind of want some pie now! Be back with the main meal later.
