I didn't have time this week to scout out the cheese section (too much Halloween activity, I guess), so I decided to just stick with the wines, namely the ones in our wine fridge. These wines have a special meaning for me, mainly because my hubby and I discovered them while on our 10th wedding anniversary road trip to Napa Valley in 2006. (We flew into San Francisco, drove to Napa and stayed for a few days, then rode with the top down in a sleek convertible all the way down the Pacific Coast to San Diego--a trip I'd always dreamed of making.)

We visited many different wineries in Napa, joined a few wine clubs, and brought some bottles home to enjoy. Believe it or not, we still have quite a few of those bottles in the wine cellar, two years later. I don't know how I've resisted the temptation for so long, but I guess I just enjoy opening up the fridge and seeing those bottles there as a reminder of what a wonderful time we had. So here's my short list of wines that I love:

Steltzner 2004 Claret: think ripe blackberries, with a smooth finish

Atlas Peak 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon: another berry-heavy wine, perfect to pair with steak

William Hill 2003 Cabernet Franc: red fruit, namely strawberries and cherries, are the key notes of this underappreciated grape.

If you can only try one, definitely go for the Steltzner Claret; ruby red, full-bodied, unique--it's fantastic. Cheers!
